ACTIVE MINDS

Active Minds is the leading nonprofit organization that empowers students to speak openly about mental health in order to educate others and encourage help-seeking. We are changing the culture on campuses and in the community by providing information, leadership opportunities and advocacy training to the next generation.

Active Minds at Brandeis University aims to decrease stigma surrounding mental illness and promote mental health through education and awareness initiatives. The club's goal is to create a community in which students feel comfortable and supported seeking help.

STUDENTS TALKING ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS (STAR)

STAR (Students Talking About Relationships) provides a face-to-face peer counseling resource for the Brandeis community. All STAR counselors are trained by professionals on topics including but not limited to general counseling skills, campus resources and procedures, domestic and dating violence, rape crisis and sexual assault, family planning and STD/STIs, alcohol and drugs, eating disorders and body image, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender topics, religion, mental health, and suicide and self-harm. In addition to peer-counseling, STAR executes educational campaigns to inform the Brandeis community about relationships. STAR also engages the community in self-care and stress relief events and activities.

THE RIPPLE EFFECT

The Ripple Effect’s primary goal is to encourage the spread of happiness, kindness and joy in others by working to promote random acts of kindness. We will do this in hopes that it will inspire a “ripple effect” that has the potential to change the world by encouraging those who have been the recipient of one of these random acts to then pass on what they have received to both friends and strangers. We will work towards inspiring others and facilitating people’s ability to spread happiness both on the Brandeis campus and in the greater community.

COMMUNICATING AND LEARNING MINDFULNESS AND RELAXATION (CALMR)

The purpose of our club is to offer a safe and organized space in which students can relax. We want to foster an environment that allows students to de-stress, by providing a quiet, peaceful place where we can discuss relaxation methods, and where students feel like they can be free from stressful language and conversations.

You are most likely to see us on the Great Lawn, with blankets, napping.
